Imagine cracking open a bestseller on the beach one sunny afternoon and flipping to the table of contents, which reads:
Long expositions aren't exactly my cup of tea, or at least, not before getting into the meat of the story. I want to love the characters first, root for them, condemn them, then give me their motivation.
So I ask you, dear reader of this blog, how are you enjoying this introduction? On the one hand, if you're reading this, it's more than likely that you know myself, or Dave, or even little Aria. Therefore, our relationship with you all, that's our exposition. You know us, what we do, what motivates us, what drives us. We're a pretty transparent couple (embarrassingly so).
On the other hand, if you don't know us personally, first off: how did you actually find this blog? Not that I'm upset that you're here, just curious how you joined us on this journey to Hong Kong. But more importantly, welcome! I'm Deanna. I'm in my mid-twenties. My daughter is cuter than yours (sorry) and my husband is, too (not sorry). I'm a graphic designer and talk back to the podcasts I listen to in the shower as we were just chatting besties.
The point I meant to make was, I've been looking at all the time we spend before we board the plane as "the Prequel." But, why? I mean, have I been spending most of my time on an air mattress, staring at a computer screen or untangling my hair? Yep, true story. But, we've also seen more friends and family than we have in awhile. We've been able to fully experience God's faithfulness and sovereignty, to know what it feels like to give it all back to Him. We've had people come through for us over and over and over.
This, all of this, is part of our story and it's too important to leave out. If Hong Kong is a new book in our lives, let this send off be the first chapter. It's made up of all of you, from my boss who offered us a room in his home to the girlfriends who collected a full box of natural hair care products that's now on its way across the sea.
I can't say it enough, you guys are amazing! I want to cry every time I think of you.
Thank you all for serving and supporting us.
Looks like three prequels was enough for this introduction. We've just got the word, our visa has been approved. We fly out on Saturday.
See ya, space cowboys...
